Our 2010 Fundraising Campaign

The measure of Shelter Valley Folk Festival’s year is the positive impact we might have, and on how many. For seven years our donors have helped us provide arts and cultural activities as a not for profit Registered Federal Charity in Northumberland County. With their help we have grown to be recognized as one of the top festivals in Canada (CBC Radio 3, 2010 ), as a thriving arts organization, and as a strong community partner.
Each year donations make this possible. Our goal of $25,000 is about 15% of our annual budget. The rest of our funding comes from ticket sales (30-40%), local to federal grants (30%) and the nurturing of modest reserves (15%). Our reserves support a part time employee and replace Festival ticket sales in case of unforeseen events.
“I don't think I have ever found a greater sense of fair play, good will and the coming together of folk to encourage, share and grow through the art form of music.”
Martyn Joseph, international festival performer.“The work that the festival does during the year to deepen their roots in the community pays off...the enthusiasm of the audience, and the number of local musicians gracing the stages. It is also a haven for families.”
Chris McKhool, Artist in the Schools performer.
How does The Shelter Valley Folk Festival organization spend the donations received? Toward our Festival (performers, site maintenance, services and supplies, the feeding of volunteers); an Artists in the Schools Program bringing performers to schools in small and large communities across Northumberland; a Community Concert series of renown artists; and a juried Local Songwriters Showcase (finalist “The Good Lovelies” winning a 2010 JUNO Award), plus many other projects.
Our year round activities engage over 300 volunteers, now a vibrant and skilled group. Each year we offer a tremendous learning opportunity for youth, create partnerships with local organizations that increase knowledge, and support many local suppliers and businesses.
Levels of support for Donors and Recognition
We welcome your financial and In-Kind support in 2010. It is key to the success and sustainability of our grassroots community event. As a Registered Federal Charity our mission is to serve the local community through the presentation of music, juried art, wellness, and sustainable living. Financial and In-Kind supporters are a vital part of our ability each year to enhance the cultural life of our community and make possible all that we do.
All levels of support are recognized in our Festival Program, on our hand painted Festival site signage, recorded on our Supporters website page (with link thru), and appear in our post-Festival Thank-You advertisement/s in Northumberland publications.
