Aengus Finnan     Jory Nash     Terry Tufts    ![]() The Way We Feel Tour Three Award-winning performers, Aengus Finnan, Jory Nash and Terry Tufts, present a musical evening where they interweave a collection of Lightfoot's most beloved songs with their own original tunes inspired by Lightfoot's music. It is both a tribute to one of Canada's most revered singer/songwriters and a showcase of talent from across the border. www.sheltervalley.com/twwf/ The concept Although thoroughly unique performers, Aengus Finnan, Jory Nash and Terry Tufts have important similarities. All have been profoundly touched and influenced by the music of Gordon Lightfoot. Between the three of them, they have won the prestigious "Songs From the Heart" award (sponsored by the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals) four years in a row. Terry, the only two-time winner, was 1998 and 2001; Aengus took the honours in 1999 and Jory won in 2000. All were integrally involved in the wildly successful series of Canadian concerts paying tribute to Lightfoot. Jory and Aengus were the producers for the first three concerts in 2003 with Terry donating his talents on the stage. Building on those sold-out shows, in 2004, they presented five SRO concerts in Toronto and Ottawa. Aengus, Jory and Terry are included in the Beautiful CD, the first-ever Lightfoot tribute album, which was released nationally across North America by Borealis Records and Northern Blues Music. This talented trio is now crossing the border to bring both Lightfoot's music and the songs he inspired them to write to the United States. "What counts is Lightfoot's instinct for narrative, his grasp of nature's grandeur and his sheer musicality." ~ Patrick Langston, The Ottawa Citizen Aengus Finnan   www.aengusfinnan.com A dreamer and a visionary if there ever was one, Aengus brings integrity, industry and talent to every project he undertakes. He worked as an actor, research diver and teacher before finding his true calling as a songwriter and troubadour. Since his first paid gig about five years ago, he has toured the breadth of his native Canada several times and found a following in the States, at such places as the Kennedy Center and the Kerrville (TX) Festival, where he was a "New Folk" winner in 2002 and returned in 2003 as a New Folk judge and a main stage performer. 2003 saw a tour of Japan and Australia. His debut recording, Fool's Gold, was nominated for "Folk/Roots Album of the Year" (Canada Music Week). The next album, North Wind, was released by Borealis Records. Aengus has received the Golden Jubilee Commemorative Medal for his significant contribution to Canada, the community, and fellow Canadians. This stunning success stems from a combination of solid songwriting skills, a comfort with the stage and a fierce dedication to this music career he has chosen. "Finnan's songs remember what was forgotten, restore what was lost and redeem what might have been." ~ David Newland, Toronto, ON Jory Nash   www.jorynash.com Jory Nash could be described as the Man of a Many Hats for he owns hundreds. More importantly, he is a compelling songwriter, strongly rooted in traditional Appalachian balladry, with elements of jazz, blues, country R & B and pop peeking through the musical curtain. Proficient on guitar, banjo and piano, Jory's warm stage presence reaches out to envelop his listeners. An accomplished storyteller, his between-song commentary is a critical element of his performances. Jory has released three albums and his Tangle With The Ghost was the most played Canadian release in 2000 on North American folk radio (FOLKDJ-L). In addition to his music, Jory has helped run a children's overnight camp in Central Ontario for over 10 years. He honed his skills singing for young kids, a demanding audience indeed. His affection for complexity and variation in both music and lyrics has led him down adventurous paths and to new horizons. This is a truly independent artist with a unique vision and an innovative style. "Jory Nash's voice is a light tenor with a dreamy late night quality (as) he explores the nuances of his poetic lyrics" ~ M. Devlin, Music Matters Terry Tufts   www.terrytufts.com He strides on to the stage with a wide grin for all, an imposing stage personality that CBC Radio has called "one of the finest finger-style guitarists in Canada". Terry Tufts have been making music for over three decades and his abilities have taken him to Australia, Finland and Sweden, in addition to pretty much every corner of his native Canada. Renown for his skill on a myriad of instruments (dobro, mandolin, banjo, dulcimer and more), Terry also has a true, sweet voice with an impressive vocal range. The combination has him in constant demand on the road and in the studio with other musicians, such as Tom Paxton, Lynn Miles, David Francey and the Arrogant Worms. Terry has five recordings to his credit, with two on the Borealis label, covering a range of influences, including pop, folk and country. He can always be counted on for "honest, intelligent lyrics delivered with passion" (Ottawa Citizen) with texture provided by his tasteful instrumental arrangements. He blends a well-travelled personal history into music without boundaries. "…a triple threat: songwriter, singer, and talented multi-instrumentalist" ~ Mike Regenstreif, The Gazette (Montreal) Concert Comments "Lightfoot's most ambitious railway song, the patriotic Canadian Railroad Trilogy, was deftly performed by Ottawa guitar master Terry Tufts. One of the evening's highlights, Tuft's rendition captured all the urgency, the pride, the sense of vision traditionally associated with the building of Canada's national railroad." ~Patrick Langston, The Ottawa Citizen "Lightfoot", an original song by...Aengus Finnan is a fitting tribute to the man whose songwriting inspired this collection - and a couple of generations of musicians. The song, a bluesy nod to Lightfoot for his songs about Canada, mixes images about the country and about Lightfoot himself. In fact, in writing the story of Canada's history in song, Lightfoot has become part of it." ~Valerie Magee (www.gordonlightfoot.com) "Keenly attuned to the working life, Lightfoot has written some gems on the topic, including Mother of a Miner's Child, presented by Toronto's Jory Nash, whose performance, a hushed, intimate portrait of how love can bear up under horrendous conditions, was another of the show's highlights." ~Patrick Langston, The Ottawa Citizen McShane Glover Noteworthy Productions 410.268.8232   mcshane@mcnote.com www.mcnote.com  Back to Top |
